THE QUIZ

how to dETECT PRIMARY PAIN AND other brain-generated symptoms

By Kent Bassett

There is growing recognition of just how commonly the brain creates symptoms in the body—it’s normal, it’s human. Brain-generated symptoms account for 25%+ of primary care visits and 80% of people will develop them at some point. Chances are your doctor or therapist has suffered in this way. We made this film in part to challenge the stigma and misperception of a condition that is so surprisingly common.

Unfortunately, it’s much harder to detect in yourself than in others. The brain is quite convincing in the how it mimics symptoms caused by structural damage. And sadly, very few are trained in recognizing this process. But with the right questions, the “detective work” is a lot easier. So we adapted a quiz created by Dr. David Clarke, president of the Psychophysiologic Disorders Association (PPDA), to help explore the question.
